About the role:

Umwelt is seeking an experienced Principal Restoration Ecologist to join our strong and highly regarded team of skilled and professional Ecologists, based at our Newcastle office.

Our ideal candidate would have an established reputation as a Restoration Ecologist, key contacts within the industry and a strong professional reputation and demonstrated skillset.

This role also needs to enjoy dealing with clients and managing projects, and would have strong ecological survey, reporting and assessment skills.

You would have a drive to grow the business and to create market opportunities with clients, and you will be responsible for growing and developing a restoration ecology team. You will work closely with our NSW Ecology Manager, Principals and National Ecology Leader to deliver quality project outcomes, and to identify market opportunities and develop and implement business growth and improvement strategies.

About you:

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Principal Restoration Ecologist with at least 12 years of experience who has:

  • Strong technical ecological and project management skills including experience delivering ecological restoration and management projects in NSW, as well as for Commonwealth EPBC assessments.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and undertaking ecological surveys, with flora survey and assessment experience desirable.
  • A degree/post graduate qualification in environmental science, botany, zoology environmental science (or similar).
  • Substantial restoration ecology experience, such as large-scale bush regeneration and mine/site rehabilitation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the capacity to prepare and review reports to near final quality
  • A demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • A high level of motivation and self-direction and ability to develop and implement business growth and improvement strategies, based on our existing client relationships and your networks.
  • BAM accredited or with extensive experience in BAM and/or other biometric data capture and analysis is desirable.
  • Prior experience in bushfire planning and assessment would be considered favourably.
