About the role:

Umwelt is seeking a Senior or Principal Ecologist who is looking to progress their career in ecological consulting, working in NSW and ACT with our Canberra ecology team.

The role is preferably based in Canberra, however we will also consider other relevant regional locations in Southern NSW.

Our ideal candidate would have previous experience as an ecological consultant as a BAM accredited assessor, would enjoy dealing with clients and managing projects, and would have sound ecological survey, reporting and assessment skills.

As a Senior or Principal Ecologist, you will work closely with our ACT Ecology Lead, Canberra Office Manager and National Ecology Leader to deliver quality project outcomes.

About you:

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Senior or Principal Ecologist with approximately 8 – 15 years of experience who has:

  • Sound technical ecological and project management skills including experience delivering ecological assessment and management projects in NSW and the ACT, as well as Commonwealth EPBC assessments. Experience in Victoria would also be desirable but is not required.
  • BAM accredited assessor or with extensive experience in BAM and/or other biometric data capture and analysis; capacity to achieve BAM accreditation.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and management of ecological surveys for large scale development or environmental offsetting projects.
  • An ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including clients and government agencies, as well as other staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the capacity to, and experience in preparing and reviewing reports. Willingness to take responsibility for delivery of reports to final quality.
  • Terrestrial fauna survey experience, including the capacity to plan surveys and coordinate field teams, is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in the collection and interpretation of ecological and spatial data
  • A degree/post graduate qualification in environmental science, botany, zoology environmental science (or similar).
  • A high level of motivation and self-direction.
