$70,323 - $88,981 p.a. + 12.5% super + 5 weeks annual leave. Permanent.

Are you passionate about sustainable land use and protecting our natural resources? Do you have experience in working with a range of stakeholders to achieve sustainable outcomes? We are looking for these qualities in a Senior Project Officer.

Working as part of the Protecting Biodiversity team, the position will assist with enabling and supporting the dry tropics community to protect, maintain and restore biodiversity within the dry tropics NRM region. This will be achieved through building community capacity, knowledge and skills through facilitating engagement and fostering community participation in sustainable natural resource management (NRM) activities.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Administer and support the application of the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation to enable and support representatives of the dry tropics community to undertake NRM activities.
  • Plan, implement, manage and report on the operational delivery of projects to enable and support the community to protect, maintain and restore biodiversity.


  • High level communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with landholders, service delivery agents, community groups, industry groups and government agencies.
  • Experience and/or technical skills/knowledge in managing sustainable land use activities for biodiversity values.
  • High-level organisational skills, including the ability to organise and prioritise work activities in a demanding, busy environment, including demonstrated attention to detail and thoroughness in all aspects of project work.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering activities to achieve milestones within project budget and time frames.
  • A knowledge of contemporary engagement practice and theory.
