About Us
The City of Whittlesea is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia and as a local government organisation we play a pivotal role in the everyday lives our community. Our vision is to make Whittlesea 2040: A Place For All by ensuring our residents can enjoy access to local services, facilities and infrastructure.
Our staff are passionate, skilled, experienced, and diverse, providing a great environment to work in and succeed.
The City of Whittlesea Public Realm
Located on the northern edge of metropolitan Melbourne covering an area of approximately 489km2, of which around 70% is rural and 30% being urban. The Urban Growth Boundary separates the well-established and developing suburbs to the south, and rural and designated Green Wedge Land to the north.
The City of Whittlesea public realm includes a sprawling open space system of over 2,000 parks, sports and conservation reserves, waterways, urban and rural streetscapes and town centres. It is also home to a diverse City Forest including Metropolitan Melbourne’s largest portfolio of protected Eucalyptus camaldulensis.
As one of Victoria’s fastest growing municipalities we add hundreds of new assets to this open space system every year through urban development contributions and our own sizable capital works program. We are guided by ambitious and well-supported open space strategy documents and strong conservation and environment provisions in our local planning scheme.
Across the City there is also a strong recognition of the Wurundjeri connection to culture, with culture being the interconnection of land, water, vegetation, and fire.
