We are currently seeking to employ a keen and enthusiastic Apprentice Nurseryperson on a full-time basis for a period up to three (3) years.

In this role, you will undertake a range of horticultural tasks associated with the operations of a successful plant production nursery, and will successfully complete a Certificate III in Production Nursery. Day-to-day duties will include plant growing, plant maintenance, irrigation system maintenance, and pest and disease control, as well as liaising with Council staff and customers.

In this position, you will be based at our Penrith Nursery and will be required to work from Monday to Friday, operating on a 76-hour fortnight with a Rostered Day Off once a fortnight.

To be eligible for this position, you must not hold a Certificate III or IV in any field completed in the last 7 years, and/or a Diploma qualification and above in any field of any date. Qualifications up to Certificate IV level commenced whilst at school or within two years of leaving school do not affect eligibility.

In addition to meeting the above eligibility requirements, you will also need to address the following selection criteria in your application:

Essential Criteria

  • A willingness to undertake and complete a TAFE Certificate III in Production Nursery
  • An interest in the nursery wholesale and production sector of the horticulture industry
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service
  • Experience in planning and coordinating day-to-day activities
  • Basic keyboard skills and Microsoft Office literacy
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Interest in environmental/sustainability issues
  • Current Class C driver licence

Commencing Salary: $38,541 per annum, plus 9.5% superannuation
