$61,817 + super. Full-time,12 month fixed term contract

The Conservation Ecology Centre is a scientific organisation generating knowledge to nurture Country. We combine rigorous research with practical land management and work with our community to restore habitats, build knowledge and develop and deliver solutions to the most urgent conservation challenges in the Otway region. We partner with public and private land managers, NGOs, traditional owners, research institutions, government and community to bring about real change in flora and fauna conservation.

The organisation was founded in 2000 alongside the Great Otway National Park. DGR status was granted in 2006 as Conservation Ecology Centre projects and programs developed across the region. Alongside conservation research programs, the organisation has also developed an integrated social enterprise model, operating the Great Ocean Ecolodge since 2004 and developing the new Wildlife Wonders project which is scheduled to open early 2021. These social enterprises contribute to financial sustainability and provide outstanding community engagement.

Project Delivery

  • Collaborate with the Conservation Project Manager to deliver project activities for a major vertebrate pest management project.
  • Deliver project related on-ground activities under the direction of the Conservation Project Manager.
  • Contribute to good communications and team relations between CEC staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders.
  • Work with Conservation Project Manager to ensure successful delivery of all project related outputs.
  • Assist Conservation Project Manager to deliver community and stakeholder engagement for all aspects of project.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Relevant experience delivering on-ground natural resource management activities particularly vertebrate pest management (Essential).
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in an environmental or related discipline (Preferred).
  • The ability to form and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Passion for conservation and an alignment to the CEC’s organisational values.
  • Sound knowledge of South-eastern Australia’s biota and ecosystems.
  • Current qualifications and experience or the ability to gain qualifications and experience in firearms use, 4WD and 4WD recovery, use of agricultural chemicals and safe use and maintenance of chainsaws (Essential).
  • High levels of initiative with the ability to successfully achieve objectives.
