We are looking for an enthusiastic Aquatic Ecologist to join our team with strong skills in Australian freshwater and marine survey techniques, understanding of water science/chemistry, and in depth knowledge of aquatic fauna.

You will have the opportunity to assist in delivering ecological assessments, environmental management and conservation planning solutions on both large- and small-scale projects throughout Australia, primarily Queensland and NSW for a variety of clients.

The role will involve assessments in accordance with State and Commonwealth guidelines, data management, report preparation, proposal preparation, client liaison, and project and budget management. 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science/Ecology/Marine
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Skills and experience in aquatic/marine surveys and reporting and waterway management
  • Knowledge of Queensland aquatic/marine flora and fauna species, including skills in identification, handling and management
  • Experience with electrofishing and macroinvertebrate survey techniques
  • Experience in planning, coordinating and undertaking aquatic/marine ecological fieldwork
  • Knowledge of Environmental impact statement requirements in QLD relating to aquatic ecology
  • Working knowledge of Queensland and Commonwealth environmental legislation
  • Willingness and capability to conduct remote field work
  • Demonstrated data analysis and report writing skills
  • Strong time and project management skills
  • A commitment to safety and safe work practices
  • Well-developed analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well with a variety of other people and work safely in the field
  • Current driver’s licence – manual vehicle and boat licence preferred.

The following skills and attributes would be highly regarded:

  • Experience in preparing a range of high-quality consulting reports
  • Prior ecological consulting experience (preferably in QLD)
  • Major project safety inductions and training
  • Strong project, budget, and client management skills
