Vital Signs Environmental (VS Enviro PTY LTD) is a family operated Environmental Consultancy which has been operating since 2003 and is one of the original Spotter Catcher providers in the industry. We are an award-winning small business located in Northen NSW, and pride ourselves in our committed team of experienced, professional and highly regarded Spotters Catchers.

As we continue to grow there is now an opportunity to join our team as an Ecological Assistant/ Fauna Spotter Catcher.

As a valued member of our team you will be required to work with our senior ecologist to assist with reporting and also be avaialble for in the field survery/fauna spotter catcher work when required. The office based role will consist of writing and submitting ecological reports for clients and government agencies,  as well as assisting in project managment of our projects.

The field work will be mainly FIFO/DIDO to various locations throughout central & far north Queensland and will include project management, FSC, surveys, habitat assessment, fauna identification, mapping, data collection etc. You will be required to work autonomously on site with our various stakeholders in remote environments.  The field work can be physically challenging, so ability to work under varying conditions is critical.

The role itself will be a unique combination of work from home and field work, so the successful applicant needs to be able to work flexible hours and be an all rounder ideally with a keen interest in small business management/development. The successful applicant can either be offered a casual or permanent position, and will be treated as family in a small business culture that values loyalty, ethical work practices and a passion for the work we do. We are seeking a dedicated person who is willing to grow and adapt with our business, with potential for career progression for the right person.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Tertiary/higher education/training in Environmental Sciences/Wildlife Management/Ecology or related discipline
  • Fauna Spotter Catcher and/or Wildlife handling experience 
  • Ability to write high quality, technical field reports for clients and relevant government agencies 
  • Excellent computer/IT skills with experience in data collection & GPS mapping
  • Fauna identification & habitat assessment skills
  • Flexibility to work remotely and autonomously in physically challenging environments (employment will be subject to pre-employment medical assessment)
  • Excellent communication skills with strong work ethic
  • Open manual driver's license 
  • Ability to work flexible hours, both away from home for field work and either from home or office for Ecological assitant work

Highly Desired:

  • Knowledge of and/or experience in mining/construction industries
  • Knowledge of and/or expereince with government environmental agencies/policies
  • Interest in small business management/development
  • Confident snake handling skills/accreditation
  • 4wd experience/accreditation
  • Qld Standard 11 generic induction/coal board medical
  • Experience in mining/construction industry or large scale construction sites
  • First aid certificate
  • Construction industry white card
  • Ability to mobilise from Brisbane airport will be highly regarded, but alternate locations may be considered for perfect applicant.
