About the Position

ALS Hydrographics is currently seeking an ambitious Full-time Trainee Environmental Field Technician/Hydrographer to join their environmental monitoring projects team in Scoresby, Victoria.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a committed and dedicated team who continually strive to meet and exceed client expectations. The successful candidate will receive on-the-job training, as well as enrolment and support to complete a Diploma of Water Industry Operations (Hydrography).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Hands on role, requiring team work, reliability and initiative.
  • Collect and verify environmental data using various software packages, for a wide range of clients.
  • Use of hand and power tools, including manual excavation for extended periods of time.
  • Assisting in the upgrade of old, and installation of new environmental monitoring sites.
  • Accurate record keeping including field notes, photographs and maps and calibration checks.
  • Flow measurement in rivers, creeks and drains.
  • May involve call out work and availability to work out of hours.

About you

The ideal candidate would have the following attributes:

  • Strong work ethic, reliable, shows initiative and a good team player.
  • Physically fit with a desire for working in a hands on, outdoor environment, experience in the use of hand and power tools is highly desirable.
  • Electronics and mechanical aptitude.
  • Good computer, software, and problem solving skills, high level of attention to detail.
  • Sound knowledge of, and adherence to, HSE principles and practices.
  • Ability to swim.
  • Manual drivers licence.
  • Environmental science, or trade based qualification.
