Ewamian Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a suitably experienced and skilled person to fill the position of Ranger Coordinator/Mentor to assist in the management and implementation of the Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger Program based  at Talaroo IPA/Nature Refuge, on the Gulf Development Road, Mount Surprise, about 350km west of Mareeba in Far North Queensland.

This position reports to the EAC General Manager.  

Fully self- contained accommodation is provided at Talaroo and Rangers commute to/from Talaroo at the start and end of their shift from Mareeba. Rangers work a 9/5 shift. This position also has the option of a permanent living arrangement at Talaroo.

Key Duties Include, but not limited to: 

  • Ensure the obligations of Ewamian Aboriginal Corporation’s Grant Deed for the Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger Program: Consultation and planning, reporting, weeds, fire and feral animal and biodiversity and cultural heritage management, education, training and development are met.
  • Ensure the obligations of Ewamian Aboriginal Corporation’s Grant Deed for the Indigenous Protected Areas (Jobs, Land and Economy Programme): deliver objectives under the Plan of Management consistent with the aspirations of the traditional owners and the EAC Strategic Plan vision.

 Skills and Qualifications Criteria:

  • Formal Conservation and Land Management qualifications
  • Experience working in a leadership role
  • A current Class C Driver’s Licence is essential
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High level of computer literacy skills in Office and GIS programs
  • Excellent organisational and coordination skills
  • Good mechanical and small engine maintenance knowledge
  • Be physically fit as on-country work will be required
