About the opportunity

Due to growth, we are seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our Port Macquarie office who will be the lead, field ecologist and knowledge expert in the ecology division.  You will support the supervision and development of the NSW Ecology division in personnel size, professional capability, client base and regularity in business turnover. Your primary role will be to undertake field work and associated reporting to service our clients for statutory compliance for development applications, consent condition compliance and community projects among various other opportunities.

In this role you will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Developing and submitting proposals and tenders
  • Driving business development and maintaining effective client relationships
  • Meeting budget requirements and driving efficiencies
  • Coordinate projects in a timely and financially appropriate manner to fulfil client expectations
  • Provide Biodiversity Australia with an understanding of government legislation, particularly relating to ecology
  • Compile, edit and review scientific documents for clients, and legislation driven applications, permits and reporting

About you

If you are a ‘hands-on’ Senior Ecologist with a passion for biodiversity management and take a consultative approach to increasing client opportunities, then this would make the perfect role for you. Your legislative knowledge, well-developed report writing skills and commitment to delivering project outcomes in a timely manner will be critical to your success in this role.

  • Tertiary qualification in Science/Environmental Science/Applied Science/Natural Resource Management or equivalent in related discipline
  • Previous experience within ecological consulting is an advantage
  • NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) Accreditation, or applicants with demonstrated ability to understand and apply BAM will be considered
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of ecological field surveys for both fauna and fauna.
  • Knowledge of and experience interpreting and applying relevant environmental legislation (NSW and Commonwealth)
  • Demonstrated commitment to on-going professional development
  • Very high level of self-motivation and demonstrated ability to manage the position's responsibility and perform complex tasks with minimal supervision
  • Thorough understanding of OH&S requirements and obligations
  • Current drivers licence and the ability to travel when required
