About the business

Hawkesbury River County Council is a local government organisation that covers one-third of the greater Sydney area. Our roles are focussed on landscape weed management, weeds regulation of the Biosecurity Act, environmental education, and natural resource management.

About the role

You will perform weed inspections, surveillance, and the implementation of the Biosecurity Act 2015 for weeds over an area of 3,800km2. You will utilise a GIS system to assist you in recording information and data. You will work as an Authorised Officer under the Biosecurity Act 2015. You will educate the community about weeds and guide landowners to achieve better land management outcomes. You will record your results and achievement regularly.

Skills and experience

You will be highly organised, act at all times with integrity. You will be a solid communicator and possess an excellent understanding of weed identification, control, and strategy.

You MUST address the following "Essential Criteria" in the Cover Letter of your application:

  • Demonstrated current knowledge of identification of weeds and integrated weed management techniques.
  • Proven experience with a wide range of weed identification, control strategy and techniques.
  • Conservation & Land Managent Cert III or equivelant.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation/regulations.
  • Can effectively use mobile mapping technology to record weeds, inspections, and control then generate reports as required.
  • Working knowledge of the requirements of the Council’s operational plans.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Proven ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Class C Drivers Licence.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Availability to work flexible working hours including weekends.
