NGH is seeking an ecologist with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in flora surveys to join our southern NSW team, based in either Wagga Wagga or Albury-Wodonga. You will need to be NSW BAM-accredited or meet the criteria to become accredited.

Our southern NSW team provides ecology and other environmental and planning consultancy services to a wide range of clients and projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in carrying out biodiversity projects in the region, including in large renewable energy and linear infrastructure projects.

You will use your knowledge and experience to plan and conduct field work, directing in-house field teams, analyse data, prepare reports and provide advice to clients.

With a network of over 70 staff across 7 offices in all eastern states and territories, NGH provides a unique opportunity to work alongside specialist ecologists and other disciplines.

This position requires a dedicated professional to join our team. You will show initiative and work independently. You will have access to Directors and senior managers for support and guidance. You will travel to project sites and complete field work as needed.

Main Duties

  • Plan and complete field surveys, in accordance with relevant BAM survey guidelines
  • Prepare biodiversity assessments, management plans and offset strategies
  • Maintain networks with experts, regulators and complete research
  • Have a level of field competency that allows you to justify your decisions
  • Identify/provide practical solutions to mitigate environmental impacts
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Assist in the provision of strategic environmental advice

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Ecology or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in flora identification and vegetation typing (2 to 5 years)
  • BAM-accredited or meet the criteria to become accredited
  • Knowledge of NSW and Commonwealth environmental legislation and policy
  • Demonstrated experience with GIS
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written
  • Drivers licence

Desirable criteria

  • Consulting experience
  • Experience in the classifying and identifying threatened flora (species/communities) in regional NSW
  • 4WD experience and/or training
  • Experience in fauna ecology
