The Role

Broadspectrum are currently looking to engage an experienced Weed Technician for an ongoing full-time position. This role will see you based at Garden Island (HMAS Stirling) alongside the grounds maintenance team.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Chemical spraying for general amenity upkeep of the estate
  • Monitoring and control of priority weeds across the estate and in bushland areas
  • Application of different control methods
  • Weed mapping
  • Use and general maintenance of spray equipment
  • Use of chainsaws, brushcutters, ride on mowers, utility vehicles etc.
  • The role will also require the successful candidate to assist with general grounds maintenance duties on the estate from time to time

Skills and Experience         

  • Must hold a current WA manual driver’s license
  • Must have Chemical handling certification or Pesticide License
  • Certificate 3 in Horticulture or Conservation & Land Management will be highly regarded

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate the following: 

  • Experience in a weed management role
  • Excellent weed Identification skills
  • Knowledge of selection, mixing and use of herbicides and spray additives
  • Understanding of weed control techniques
  • Sound knowledge of native flora or able to distinguish weeds from native plants
  • Self-motivated and organized, and able to self-manage time and tasks whilst keeping up the lines of reporting
  • Can demonstrate drive and initiative along with common sense
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well-as being able to work autonomously in unsupervised locations
