The Wild Dog Exclusion Fence (WDEF) Coordinator is responsible for coordinating key biosecurity projects, and in particular the strategy, stakeholder liaison, funding, contract management, procurement, monitoring and reporting associated with the WDEF to control invasive pests and protect and diversify the agricultural economy.

You will have significant experience in a similar role and ideally hold relevant tertiary qualifications, while also having a good understanding of Local Government laws, regulations and compliance. This role is initially being offered as a 2-year full time, fixed term contract (To be reviewed for a potential additional year extension after 18 months)

  • Stake holder engagement with landholders, council personal, government agencies, agricultural and biosecurity bodies, businesses, and community groups
  • Secure external grants, funding and other contributions that resource biosecurity projects

Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in agriculture, biosecurity, conservation or other land management activities
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications – highly regarded
  • Knowledge of or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of biosecurity legislation and operations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, facilitation and negotiation skills
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of stakeholder cooperation, influence and customer service standards
  • Good program and project management skills including budgeting
  • Good staff management and professional development skills
  • Experience in developing and facilitating strategies and plans
  • Ability to work unsupervised, be well organised, meet demanding deadlines and deliver high quality outcomes
  • Holding or having the ability to obtain any relevant land management licences or certificates as required
  • Current C Class open drivers’ licence

The Balonne Shire has a population of 4,500 and serves the communities of St George, Thallon, Dirranbandi, Bollon, Nindigully, Mungindi, and Hebel. This position is based in St George, located five hours’ drive west of Brisbane.
