Desert Support Services (DSS) forms part of the Central Desert Group (CDG) of companies that also include Central Desert Native Title Services and Rockhole Funds Management. Each company is separately incorporated and operates independently, but work closely together where there are clients and interests in common.

The Indigenous Desert Alliance (IDA) commenced in 2014 as an informal network of Indigenous land management organisations, aiming to connect Indigenous rangers who are working on desert country throughout Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory to support cultural, environmental and social outcomes.  See http://indigenousdesertalliance.com for more details.

For the past three years, DSS has provided part-time coordination services to support the IDA. Over this time the membership and business of the IDA has grown to stage where it can now become an independent entity and employ its own staff. The work to incorporate the IDA and to appoint its inaugural board is underway and expected to be finalised in 2018.

The successful applicant will initially be employed by DSS and transition to the IDA upon its incorporation.

This is an exceptional opportunity to be responsible for the ongoing, successful management of the organisation in accordance with the strategies, policies, programs, mission and values approved by the Board to achieve agreed goals.

The successful person will:

  • Experience in organisational development;
  • Experience in managing human, financial and physical resources;
  • Experience in developing workplace culture;
  • Proven ability in two-way (Indigenous and non-Indigenous) communication skills and experience;
  • Skills and experience in managing complex projects and contracts;
  • Experience in policy and advocacy; and
  • Be able to provide a police clearance less than 6 months old.

The successful person will be based in our Alice Springs office and must be available to travel.
