Primary purpose of the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Conservation Planning Officer to provide advice to local and state government, proponents and the community on statutory and strategic planning matters and contribute to the NSW Government’s initiatives in relation to environmental planning, management and conservation.

  • This position would co-ordinate and provide advice to external stakeholders and management on strategic environmental planning matters to ensure optimal natural, environmental and Aboriginal cultural heritage conservation outcomes.
  • We are looking for a result focussed team player to ensure that environmental assessment and strategic planning advice is consistent with NSW government policies and guidelines.
  • An ideal candidate will use the specialled project management skills to review and report as relevant on the environmental impacts, including biodiversity, sustainability and Aboriginal cultural heritage and ensure consistency of OEH comments on planning proposals and activities for Major Projects.

Essential requirements:

  • Knowledge of and experience in the interpretation of legislation, and experience in dealing with environmental planning and assessment issues.
  • Experience in the assessment and analysis of strategic and complex conservation proposals.
  • Current Drivers Licence.

A Recruitment Pool may be established for future temporary and ongoing roles with similar focus capabilities. The Recruitment Pool may be available to hiring managers from OEH and other NSW Public Sector agencies over a 12 month period.
