About the business

Z-NET Uralla Inc. is a not-for-profit community organisation. The purpose of Z-NET Uralla is to create Australia's first regional Shire which satisfies all of its own energy needs from renewable energy sources. This includes firewood for winter heating.

About the role

We are seeking Tenders to deliver Professional Services for a NSW Environmental Trust Education Grant to improve the sustainability of firewood collection and use in the Uralla Shire. The project goals are to:

  • Improve on-farm ecological outcomes and provide sustainable firewood
  • upgrade the thermal performance of homes that rely on firewood for heating to reduce wood use
  • and improve the efficiency of firewood use.

Professional Services Required - Commencing March 2018

  • Coordinate training events, site biodiversity assessments, and workshops for landholders
  • Coordinate volunteer groups to assist with field work
  • Undertake Home Energy Reviews and follow-up activities with households
  • Coordinate workshops for householders to improve thermal efficiency of their homes
  • Assist with design and implementation of firewood accreditation scheme
  • Coordinate community events and school engagement activities
  • Respond to general enquiries, manage online presence and prepare promotional material
  • Maintain Monitoring & Evaluation records


The Tender is for 1,890 hours spread evenly over a 3 year period (commencing March 2018) to deliver Professional Services. Travel expenses will be reimbursed separately. An hourly rate is not specified but is expected to be equivalent to $40-$45/hour. Value for money is an assessment criteria for the Tender.

Assessment Criteria for the Tender

All Tenders must be received by 5pm on Sunday 4 March 2018 and must specifically address the Assessment Criteria below:

  1. Experience working with landholder and/or community groups, managing volunteers, including experience with facilitation of workshops and group activities.
  2. Experience in the assessment of home energy use, thermal fabric of residential buildings and management of firewood. Visual basic programming skills are desirable for updating the Z-NET Home Energy Review Tool.
  3. Project management skills – to design, resource, deliver and monitor projects effectively.
  4. Excellent communications skills and ability to deliver communication in a range of forms including digital platforms. Publishing and design skills are desirable.
  5. Proven ability to work with minimal direction/supervision.
  6. Available to participate in some weekend and evening activities. Have access to a car, own laptop and phone (reasonable expenses will be reimbursed).
  7. Value for money.
