Operating from within the Pest Animal Research Centre of Invasive Plants and Animals, this Project officer position will be directly involved in a collaborative research project to improve the management of wild dogs and feral deer.

This will include undertaking research on the ecology, impacts and management of wild dogs and feral deer in peri-urban areas. This position will be primarily working with researchers, local governments and the community.

Job details

  1. Prioritise, plan and conduct research on the impacts and management of peri-urban wild dogs and feral deer.
  2. Liaise with pest managers, local government staff, landholders, Biosecurity Queensland and interstate colleagues to review, collate and evaluate available data on the distribution, densities, impacts, and management of feral deer and wild dog populations.
  3. Improve our understanding of community attitudes to peri-urban deer and wild dog management to facilitate the effective implementation of management strategies.
  4. Undertake, with the assistance of project collaborators, testing of wild dog and feral deer management strategies in peri-urban areas.
  5. Assist in the preparation of scientific reports and publications.
