Fireland Consultancy is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to work with our land and fire management specialists in the South East, Central and North Queensland regions.

Fireland provides high quality land and bushfire management services to a wide range of customers within the regions and is seeking skilled applicants who can meet the following selection criteria.

Key selection criteria

  • Very high-level bushfire management skills in rural environments, demonstrated as crew leader, or as fire crew including experience in operational fire suppression and mitigation activities including prescribed burning
  • Experience in working collaboratively with various stakeholders and landholders on natural resource management issues specifically bushfire management
  • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously and productively within a small team
  • A commitment to safety and risk management
  • Good communication skills
  • High level of physical fitness for working outdoors and in strenuous physical tasks such as using hand tools, brush cutting, knapsack spraying, and planting.

The following skills and qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Well-developed knowledge of the role of fire in natural systems and the use of fire for achieving ecological outcomes and managing risks
  • Strong interest in land, fire and ecological management
  • Crew leader (L2), crew member (L1) accreditation
  • Chainsaw operations accreditation
  • Driving 4WD vehicles and heavy vehicles
  • Current first aid accreditation
  • Skill or experience in forestry, parks or rural works.

The following skills and qualifications are desirable:

  • A desire for continued learning
  • Good fauna and flora identification knowledge
  • Herbicide spraying experience
  • Pest management experience
  • Studies in conservation, ecology or related.

A Manual driver’s licence is essential.

Background

Fireland is looking to increase our existing workforce with several casual positions offered with possibility of some seasonal based full time or part-time work to service existing or new contracts.

These employment opportunities for Fireland will undertake a range of land and fire management activities. They will reduce bushfire risk and mitigate the impact of bushfires on life, property and the environment.

They will also promote improved ecological and biodiversity outcomes for our customers. Fireland Consultancy services clients in the South-east region (including Northern NSW), Central Queensland - Rockhampton centric and North Queensland - Townsville centric. Fireland operates right across these regions and are looking to establish staff throughout.

The roles are intended to build capacity for Fireland and for the community.  They will develop and deliver high quality land and bushfire management services to a wide range of customers.

The roles will participate in land and bushfire management planning and operations, and assist with prescribed burn planning, prescribed burn implementation and operational fire suppression and mitigation activities. Other related land management activities and projects may present from time to time.

Remuneration

Fireland’s pay rates are competitive and above the relevant award rates – Miscellaneous Award 2010 (MA000104). Remuneration will be commensurate with experience.  Personal factors such as your demonstrated hard and soft skills, level of education, history and relevant work experience will all be evaluated. Fireland’s levels of officers/pay points and brief descriptions are: 

Recruit - Undertaking training; low level, developing skills, competencies and experience

  • Level 1 - Low level and some skills; developing some further skills, crewing roles (Level 1 Fire)
  • Level 2 - Moderate level and range of skills, crewing and crew leader roles
  • Level 3 - High level and broad range of skills, crew leader and team leadership roles (Level 2 Fire) and supervising, mentoring
  • Level 4 - Very high level and broad range of skills, senior team leader roles and supervising, mentoring including training others.
