Spectrum are looking for an Environmental Statistician to join the Ecology team. The role will assist with the delivery of high-quality data and analytics in service of evidence-based ecological assessments, working alongside a team of passionate professionals, devoted to achieving the best outcomes for our clients and the environment.

Job tasks and responsibilities

The successful applicant will bring a passion for data and ecology, a willingness to learn, and will contribute towards our common vision of delivering high quality, fit-for-purpose solutions to our clients. This role will perform a wide range of tasks that may include: 

  • Statistical analysis of ecological data. 
  • Manipulation and federation of multiple sources of spatio-temporal raster and vector data. 
  • Collaborative and iterative development of data and reporting workflows and pipelines. 
  • Ensuring that ecological data is accurate, consistent, and reliable for informed environmental decision making. 
  • Innovate analytical and graphical outputs appropriate for ecological decision making and reporting. 
  • Report writing based on spatial and non-spatial environmental data. Providing data governance and statistical analysis leadership and support to our key business areas of spatial ecology, botany, and zoology. 
  • Metadata management. 
  • Ecological and species distribution modelling. 

Skills and experience 

  • Tertiary qualifications in botany, environmental science, or equivalent, with a strong emphasis on statistics, or in mathematical, computing or information sciences with a strong emphasis on ecological systems. 
  • Strong proficiency in R. 
  • Practical knowledge and experience of mixed effect and generalised additive statistical models. 
  • Proven ability to innovate data processing workflows in R to meet data analysis requirements, including of spatial and temporal data.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills, and the ability to produce high quality, scientifically robust reports, and other client deliverables.  
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, collaborate and lead within cross-functional teams. 
  • Desirable skills include: proficiency in GIS software and analysis of spatial data, data modelling in SQL, and automation of document production in R.
